Preserve Gun Rights, Save Black Lives

Unfortunately, there are no law-abiding blacks, just as there are no law-abiding people left in the entire United States of America. We have so overly legislated at the local, state, and federal levels that it is impossible for anyone to go through a single day without violating some law. We've had those laws imposed on us by our peers and masters without our specific agreement. We violate those laws and take no consequence for it. We violate those laws and have them inconsistently enforced. All of those things are designed to produce a profound and complete disrespect for law. Throw away that useless term, "law-abiding". Start using the phrase "good and righteous" instead.

And this would be a good occasion to recall Cicero: "The more laws there are, the less justice there is".

Liberals will say, "you have no right to yell FIRE in a crowded theater." That is true, but it's not a restriction on your first amendment rights. It's a restriction on an action which could cause widespread damage, including death, to the people who are in the theater with you. It's a restriction on an action, not a right. The analogy would be that I have a right to keep and bear arms, but it's not OK for me to shoot at my neighbor's house. There are even city ordinances against discharge of firearms within the city. Again, that's not a restriction of the right to keep and bear arms, it's a restriction on an associated action. They don't typically prosecute someone in the case of self defense for illegally discharging a firearm.

Dr_Zinj, you make some marvelous points above. Laws in a free nation should reflect moral behavior. Laws should not be about controlling the general populace, which is where we, as a nation, seem to be heading. There is nothing wrong with free people, who are not bent on committing violent crimes, keeping and bearing arms, including semiautomatic rifles and pistols which liberals don't like. Free people should not have their rights restricted based upon the actions of criminals and cut throats. Rights are different than actions.

Disobedience to tyrants is obedience to God.

This past Friday my organization, CURE, sponsored a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, to bring attention to the importance of rigorously defending the right of all Americans, guaranteed under the 2nd Amendment of our Constitution, to own a gun.

Our event provided a forum for black leaders from the world of politics and public policy in Washington, from the business community, from academia, and from the clergy to express their deep concern about efforts currently underway to limit our God-given and constitutional individual right of self-defense.

Why would an organization like CURE, whose mission focuses on...
