My adopted brother is one of those on adult SSI disability. He suffers from fairly severe fetal alcohol syndrome. His half brother (yes, different sperm "donors") is so bad off he's instituionalized. His mother was a chronic druggie alcoholic. He has an effective I.Q. of around 80. While he can drive and work at low tech jobs (an apprentice level automechanic is about tops for him), he communicates poorly, he hasn't a lick of common sense, can't manage a budget, and has "victim" and "easy mark" stamped all over him.

I’ve written and pontificated about the problem of government-created dependency and how the welfare state traps people in poverty.
