Come on guys, don't be jugheads. These curly bulbs save huge amounts of energy and will keep your electric bill lower. Evolve or perish.

Dopey doug3694- only certain wavelengths of light emitted by the sun is converted by the body to vitamin D not from a mercury bulb.
Second they also are a source mercury pollution which is not good for the planet-
Third half of the ones I had bought quit working in less then a year so I replaced them with an incadescent which have been burning for 4 years now.
Fourth please sit down and eat a plate full of CFC bulbs -- you are to dumb to live

When they first came out, they were not as reliable. My curly bulbs last 5 times longer than filament bulbs, and use 1/4 to 1/5 the electricity.

Money saving, compact fluorescent light bulbs emit high levels of ultra violet radiation, according to a new study. Research at Long Island’s Stony Brook found that the bulbs emit rays so strong that they can actually burn skin and skin cells.

“The results were that you could actually initiate cell death,” said Marcia Simon, a Professor of Dermatology.
