In response to:

Asteroids, Polar Bear Cannibalism Lead to Global Warming, or, uh, Something Bad

It should not have come as a surprise to our commenter that news anchors can be ill versed in science and prone to air unreasonable speculations and fears. Asteroids, of course, know nothing of earth's temperature shift. There are even scientists who are not particularly stable, sober, and level-headed. The fate of polar bears will be the least of our worries. But science itself is resilient. It shrugs off the foibles of its erring mortals. Where one goes wrong, several step in with corrections. Atmospheric CO2 is up from about 280 parts per million to near 400. World temperatures are rising, and not by coincidence. If this goes on, it will not end well. It is not going well now, and we are in the early, mild stages of the warming.

World temperatures are NOT rising.

Again, World temperatures are NOT rising.

Repeat after me, mindless libbie trolls who ardently desire government control over EVERYTHING:

"WORLD TEMPERATURES HAVE NOT RISEN OVER THE LAST 17 YEARS."

Questions?

Doug, I was with you right up to where you wrote, "World temperatures are rising, and not by coincidence".

Whether or not world temperatures are rising depends on the time frame. At my house, the temperature is rising quickly - since dawn. But, it's a lot colder at my house - since July. There is, in my opinion, no way to tell if we are in a long-term warming, or cooling, cycle unless you choose a time period long enough to be unaffected by normal temperature noise.

And even of we are in a long-term warming trend, causation is speculative until someone produces a robust model.

Global warming, and global cooling, has been going one since the earth first formed. I don't remember a bunch evil Americans being around for the vast majority of the earth's existence. So what caused those early climate change? Certainly not humans.

Still less is the United States the globe.

We can't be the world's leading power, but apparently we CAN be the cause of Earth's destruction.

Absolutely! And, remember, there should be no argument. The science is "settled."

The most pathetic part of the whole episode was that I knew that I would find it is soon as I saw the headlines and read the stories.

“A meteor streaked across the sky and exploded over central Russia on Friday,” reported Reuters, “sending fireballs crashing to earth which shattered windows and damaged buildings, injuring more than 500 people. People heading to work in Chelyabinsk heard what sounded like an explosion, saw a bright light and then felt a shockwave, according to a Reuters correspondent in the industrial city 950 miles east of Moscow.”

While reading headlines about...
