Immigration has its good side. We do get millions of energetic, talented people. Along with many that aren't that much help. Just because they start out poor doesn't mean their children will be useless. It all depends. Consider what has become of the descendants of the coolie laborers we brought in from China.

Well put, Charles... the study I cited just above concluded the same things

All immigrants EXCEPT Hispanics do better right from the getgo than the average native-born American.

BUT Hispanics trail form the start-- and will even after 3 generations here. The REAL key is lower aptitude than Whites and Asians...I.Q.'s are only 80 among Indian Hispanics...and only 85 among blacks, many of whom are part-white.

Doug, you are talking about another culture, the Asian culture. Asians, as a whole, still believe in a work ethic, family values and a sense of shame. Note to businesses, if you need to hire minorities, hire Asians. The first generation of Asians may be low line laborers, their children will be doctors, lawyers etc., Asians look to the future, blacks and Mexicans look for a handout TODAY.

Immigrant Assimilation: Why Worry?

Conclusion:

Worrying about immigrant assimilation boils down to worrying about Mexican immigration. Non-Hispanic immigrants consistently outperform natives, even after three generations here.

Meanwhile, Mexican immigrants make up the largest and least educated immigrant group. While they make the biggest gains (coming from such a mean base) after coming to the United States, they STILL lag behind in education and wage outcomes even after 3 generations here.

BUT, Hispanic immigrants have low aptitudes and REMAIN on the bottom...they are the ONLY immigrant group which does...see this study by an economist with the Dallas Fed:

Fed. Res. Bank socio-economist's study of immigrants...some immigrants are FAR WORSE for America than others...

What! Not from illegals you don't.

Republicans who support amnesty are like global warming alarmists. They can't answer the most basic questions about what they believe. Since the Republican Party is now once again considering going to war with itself over amnesty instead of trying to move the ball forward for conservatism, it seems like a good time to ask some of the crucial questions that always seem to be conspicuously ignored because the pro-amnesty side has no answers.

1) How many net votes would the GOP lose if illegal immigrants become citizens? Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney 73% to 27% with Hispanic...
