I'm inclined to agree that may be a factor in many cases. We know the pop media would crucify anyone opposing the Left over things they'd keep quiet about among their own. I think in far too many cases it's not so much this kind of quiet blackmail as just careerism & complacency, the desire to go along & get along, don't rock the boat & get nice pork to take home as a reward, & enjoy the sinecure and perks & be invited to all the right parties.

The only answer anyone ever seems to be able to offer to that question these days is, "Because the Democrats are worse." However, the problem with being the lesser of two evils is that you're still an evil.
