Republican Party Must Face Up to Past Failures

The establishment Republicans after 1995, & esp. after 2000, had morphed into blatant kleptocrat statists doing Democrat Lite ostensibly in an effort to keep supposed big-gov pro-welfare pro-pork independents happy. Actually, they just wanted to preside over a big growing government too. I always thought Medicare B & NCLB were attempts to steal a march on Demmies with 3/4-of-a-loaf, trying to out-Democrat the Democrats. It got downright bizarre with Republicans pushing the "comprehensive immigration reform" (i.e. mass amnesty/insta-citizenship scheme) & speech rationing "campaign finance reform" any fool knew would serve only to squelch conservatives. But then the estie Repubs WANTED to shut the annoying conservatives up!

I agree. The RINO party is more interested in their own pocketbooks and power than in our prosperity. Thus the look to trade government favors for campaign cash or votes. Bush's idea of bribing the public for votes ("trying to out-Democrat the Democrats") was a failure of morality, whereby government is used to steal from us to buy our votes.

Boehner's sequestration deal (what a favor for Democrats) and his negotiations with Obama (offering tax increases for nothing) just shows he's a big spender too. Even the Ryan budget INCREASES government spending by 3.1% each year from the already way to high spending. They aren't fiscal conservatives, they are kleptocrats who lied to us to get elected.

Losing Congress in 2006 should have been a warning sign but they took it the wrong way. They doubled down in 2008 nominating their point anti-1st-Amendment amnesty-4-illegals let-Demmie-Sens-block-judges guy, who proceeded to add a garnish by coming out for energy rationing, too!

IMO Romney was a FAR better candidate than McCain in 2008, but still not good enough to draw in those wary of Big Sugar Daddy Government or make the case for dumping Obama.

Furthermore Obama HAD a track record now, & was presiding over economic failure. IMO Romney's team relied too much on the recession & Obamacare unpopularity, & failed to press their own case enough. Why weren't we getting daily readings of all the evil in Obamacare, or the recession.

Republicans are rightfully depressed by the reelection of President Obama and for the failure of the Republican Party to take the majority in the Senate. I have read much and heard much. But, I have heard very little about the Republicans expressing contrition for their past failures and very little that demonstrates that today’s Republican Party leaders recognize the causes of those past failures.

No one should be surprised by Obama’s reelection. He was a very popular candidate who swept into office in 2008 and he was a formidable incumbent this year. The only reason Romney had a chance was...
