"...a state characterized by the coexistence of contradictory or incompatible elements." Orwell called it "doublethink" in _1984_. It wasn't a mental aberration, but the correct attitude for a loyal citizen of Oceania.

Good point and well referenced. It is disturbing to see how much our society pulls from that novel. Or is it the novel pulling ideas from society?
One thing is certain, it works, and is one of the many mental tools used by the establishment to break down the moral conscience of the public, thus corrupting judgement, and finally destroying the once God fearing nation we live in.
