Paranoid or Prescient?

I think you meant "peddled it."
Operation Olympic and Operation Coronet were the code names for anticipated U. S. invasions of Japan.-not Operation "Downfall." I am mystified by the anticipated 1.5 million casualty figure. It did not come from the U. S, Strategic Survey. Many military commanders opposed the bombings after the war, including MacArthur, Adm. Leahy, General Eaker (8th Air Force Commander in England during the strategic bombing campaign in Europe. Eisenhower was also critical of it.
The one million myth was pandered by former Secretary of State Stimson in 1951, six years after the war and after substantial American objections began to be heard. U. S. strategic surveys projected far fewer casualties. There were something over 400,000 American deaths on all fronts during the War, and to say there would be one million American deaths (or even one million casualties) would have been beyond the bounds of reason or of Japanese capabilities. The attack actually cost more American lives than had the bombs not been dropped. More than 500 American sailors died when the Cruiser Indianapolis was torpedoed after delivering the bomb and hundreds more American POW's were killed by the Atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
It is not an insult to American veterans to criticize dropping the Atom Bomb on Japan. As a conservative World II historian, I can categorically say that the U. S. had no legitimate strategic, tactical or moral right to drop the bombs. Japan was beaten and was seeking a way to surrender. United States determination and the fighting spirit of American troops had already won the war. To criticize your country's political decisions and to provide historical evidence is not unpatriotic. To turn old people, babies, toddlers and every living thing into living torches, to boil their internal juices until they dropped dead from radiation, and to vaporize and blast to pieces tens of thousands is not a legitimate act of war.
What does the term "decorated war veteran" have to do with it?

Greatest Generation the Most Entitled

There is merit to Goldberg's comments. The "greatest generation" inscription was contrived by a journalist and has been adopted as a catchy phrase by our contemporary culture. Goldberg isn't demeaning the achievements and labor of my parents (whose sacrifices were enormous) but is a historical analysis of causation. Matter of fact, there are significant similarities between National Socialism and the New Deal.

Let me say again, without the mispellings. The Dred Scott case had nothing to do with Black personhood. It was decided on the dubious claim that Scott had no standing to sue, because he was not a citizen. Judge Napolitano, of all people, should have known that.
