Cut every government dept by 10% for a start, no sacred cows. Then eliminate some of the depts that are worthless like the EPA, Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, Dept of Homeland Insecurity, Dept of Justice, and the islamic State Dept.

Real cuts would be nice. The sequestration doesn't even make real cuts. Just reduces the increase. It would be a fairly shallow start. Your idea is good. To bad it's never going to happen with the current parties in power. Republicans are just democrat light. They are only interested in playing the game to retain their cushy jobs and power.
Yikes, we're headed toward a fiscal cliff! It will crush the economy! Or so the media and politicians tell us.

The "cliff" is a series of tax increases and budget cuts that automatically go into effect Jan. 1 unless Congress acts.

Will Congress act?

It will! I see the future: The politicians will meet and fret and hold press conferences and predict disaster. Then they'll reach a deal.

It will just postpone the reckoning, but they'll congratulate themselves, and the media will move on.

America, however, continues to go broke.
