The GOP always talks about avoiding "raising taxes on the American people" without mentioning the part we are discussing here. They take GOP followers as suckers (and they are often correct). Yes, I agree these millionaires are the true patriots that want to do wjhat is best for the USA even if it costs them more money.
Keep in mind that when you hear talk of raising taxes, they are not talking about raising taxes on average Americans like me. They are talking about raising taxes on those that make over a million a year. They can afford to pay more and still keep their maids and vacation homes. Why is anyone that makes less than a million a year against the rich paying more taxes? Many millionaires have publicly stated that they would be happy to pay more taxes if it will help the economy/nation. I am amazed to see lower/middle income/class people against this. Can someone kindly explain that? (Please don't give me the BS about millionaires being "job creators". If that were true, where are all the jobs that were created by the Bush tax cuts?

I am just curious where so many people on this thread got the idea that most rich peo-ple got their money by "working hard". Really? I feel the posts I see on here are the same as the posts I see on "liberal" sites. Not many of the comments seem to be based on reality. I am not a big fan of our president but I don't see him doing things that could be considered socialist. If anything, he has protected big business like any president should.

Reba from TX: I see your point and I don't disagree that throughout history radical Muslims have been violent and at odds with the west. I don't disagree with that. I will only add that, since you do seem to know history, I am sure that you are aware that many millions have been killed in the name of Christianity over the centuries. Is that somehow different?

MacQ: I also agree with most of the sentiments you've expressed. I did not say that the US backed Al Queda. I said that the US actually formed the group and supplied and trained them (including Osama Bin Laden). Remember when Rumsfeld shook Osama's hand many years ago?

I'd say comparing North to OJ Simpson is appropriate. They were both accused of crimes. They both faced a trial with all American legal protections and they were both let off due to technicalities, not relevation of facts. Sounds quite similar to me.

L: From your last post I am assuming that you are pleased that KSM will be facing trial in Manhattan (?).

Then where was all this hatred toward the POTUS when GW Bush failed to support the troops in Iraq by providing requested armor. Bush 43 failed our military men and women in many ways. Where was all the hatred then?

Also, we are not a military dictatorship. The military works for the president and Congress. It's not the other way around. I agree and have been saying for a long time that Obama waited too long to take action. I dare say that he knows much more about the situation than you or I. Let's face it, most Americans want to be free and safe (I bet many here may think that liberals don't like freedom or safety... that's how odd I've found this site to be.)

For anyone wishing for less government I suggest that you...

I will say that I do appreciate the corrections offered on Ollies legal record. I do stand corrected. He did get off on many of the charges brought against him... on technicalities, not because of facts. Like OJ Simpson is innocent also, right?

I sure have found the comments on here to be more than interesting. While most posters here seem to think they are all pro-American they seem to be forgetting a lot about a lot of things. Since posting earlier I have only seen a few that make sense. My favorite responses came from tinsldr2 in GA (a veteran). The reason those responses were best to me is that we actually seem to disagree on many issues but tinsldr2 seems to be a reasoning person and may be able to enlighten me and change my mind on some things. Since that poster offered their e-mail addy I intend to continue a dialogue outside of this board. Here I have found mostly people that seem to be uneducated in history and full of hatred for our system of government (electing a...

Anthony:

I appreciate your prayers. Where does all this "No morals, no shame, godless government" stuff come from?! Please let me know what you are talking about.

If you cannot see the damage done by GWB (as many intellectual conservatives can see) than I doubt we have much to discuss.

Again, please fill me in on what you mean by describing the current president as you have.

Tinsldr2:

Thank you for your post. I am sure we probably disagree on many things. I never have, and still do not understand any valid reason for invading Iraq, as it had nothing to do with 9/11 and has killed many of our soldiers, cost our nation a fortune all for no reason at all that I can see. However, I see we do agree that it is best to put the dogma aside and show support for the elected leader of our nation.

Unlike most of the posts I've seen here you seem to appreciate the complexities of our challenges in Afghanistan. Thank you.

(The folks on this sight still fuming over birth certificates really seem out of whack to me. Some just cannot accept a black man being elected president I guess (?) )
