Good for you. That's what I told my kids. No matter what happens they can't take that away from you. It used to be that a guy who hustled and got out there and pounded the pavement could usually find a job because a lot of people were not willing to do that. Nowadays you have to compete with everyone and their brother who just fire off their embellished resume's from the comfort of their living room. The last time I was unemployed I tried to do both. You know the Career Builder, Monster route and the legwork. But I found that more than half of the companies I contacted won't even accept walk-ins. They have the guard or receptionist give you their e-mail address.

What a difference a few month makes.

Last month we were told by a fawning news media how great things were. The economy was a little engine that could.  And the declining unemployment rate was touted in headlines as significant progress toward economic recovery.

Unemployment rate falls to 7.8% in September, reported the Washington Post- a four-year low...”nearly”… whatever “nearly” means.
