I don't know where you guys get this. When I was in school we recited the Pledge of Allegiance every day, learned George Washington never told a lie even when he chopped down the cherry tree, and our American History textbook was called Rise of the American Nation. I never even heard of Howard Zinn until I was a junior in college and I was a political science major. I asked my kids when they got to high school what the political bent of their history teacher was and they said they really didn't know except that he had a picture of George W. Bush on his desk lol.

the "progressives" begin at a low,insidious level,by altering the small facts first. As the kids get older,they're gradually indoctrinated more and more. first it's the "green" stuff,"save the whales",then more PC stuff like "diversity","inclusiveness","tax the rich" etc.
