The harm done by this administration alone, is staggering. I'd love to see a study done by Heritage or some other organization on just how much economic damage has been done to the people of this great country by the Obama administration, and right before him, the years of Pelosi/Reid. It has to be countless billions/trillions of dollars of productivity, wealth, etc stolen by horrifically bad policies. How many people would have a job right now, for example, if we had a president that was pro-business, pro-freedom, pro-free markets, pro-capitalism, instead of the anti-business, big govt liberal dolt we've been suffering with? The numbers have to be astronomical, but the only thing we ever focus on, is how much we've spent (that we don't have), which is important, but I'd like to know how much we could have had, had we had sensible leadership, and not one bent on socialism.
I'm a conservative and pro-legalization and I agree as it simply doesn't make sense to ban a plant, from a conservative standpoint. We're supposed to be for smaller, less-intrusive govt, not for the overreaching, left-wing nanny state thought-control type of govt.
all drugs...yes, I agree, but marijuana is a plant that grows wild...there is zero reason for it to be prohibited.
huh? what? if you are alluding to the string of "unprecedented events" being the rising tide of socialism here in the country that has spawned a horrifically bad economy, people out of jobs, wages actually decreasing instead of increasing, etc then I'm understanding where you are coming from, but if you're trying to blame conservatives for the current dire state of affairs of our govt, our economy etc, then you are not intelligent enough to have a conversation with. I see you mentioned the "weather" being unprecedented? how? where? none of it is without precendent. I guess you consider the non-existent "global warming" to be the cause of "the weather"...?
I don't find him intellectually dishonest in this, I think he just has it in his mind that somehow the whole country will "go to pot" (pun intended) if a plant is legalized. It is a plant. It makes zero sense to have a ban on the use of a plant. It only makes sense if a company is using a plant and claiming it has health benefits or something...that is fraud. This is adults of legal age, either growing their own or purchasing it from a retailer, and using in the privacy of their home or in a legal manner in a social gathering (and not driving afterwards). That is what we're talking about and so far I've not seen a valid reason for why it remains illegal. It has to do with nanny-state govt really, that is the bottom line.
I have to disagree with Dennis and I like Dennis a lot and listen to his show regularly, but on this topic I disagree. First, even pro-marijuana legalization folks would readily admit that for a short period of time when something that has been illegal for decades becomes legal again, there will be a spike in its consumption, but that is only temporary. The access to marijuana has been at it's highest in the past few decades, and that is with prohibition in place. So, by it's nature, when something is ILLEGAL, for kids/teens etc, it makes it MORE DESIRABLE. When things are legal, they no longer are such a big deal. They are only a big deal right now since legalization JUST PASSED. This is a no-brainer so I'm shocked that Dennis gets it wrong, but I'm what I consider to be a true conservative, and as a true conservative I cannot go along with prohibiting a plant. It is a plant for crying out loud. Prohibiting use of a plant is like the Left in this country prohibiting oil.....it comes from the ground, it is Mother Nature, there is no valid argument for banning either substance. There is much more valid arguments available for banning say meth, or designer drugs somebody creates in a lab, but so far I've not seen a valid argument presented, that banning marijuana has benefitted society. NONE. There has been zero benefit to society. We've taken productive tax-paying citizens and put them in jail so we can all have to foot the bill to pay for their incarceration. It is stupid. The argument that everyone that smokes pot becomes a "pothead" or a "loser" is a non-starter and just simply dumb. Many productive tax-paying citizens work super hard during the day and would like to relax with a joint at night. There is nothing wrong/offensive about that and so Dennis is putting out a really weak straw-man argument there...really a non-starter of an argument, which is usually not the way Dennis does things.
You can be a Republican, a conservative, etc, like me, and be for ending the asinine marijuana prohibition. There is nothing in the history of the Republican party that supports prohibition of marijuana. It was put in place largely by Democrats during the prohibition era (most people don't know that Dem's put forth prohibition). When prohibition was lifted, they left marijuana to be illegal. Everyone thinks because the majority of today's "hippies" are left-wingers (and what a paradox that is), that means that Democrats have always been pro-pot and Republicans anti-pot. The facts don't support that. Neither party was anti-pot until prohibition when both parties became anti-pot.
As a true conservative, I believe marijuana should be legal. To date, I've been waiting, but have not seen a valid reason provided, by anyone, as to why marijuana should be illegal. It is a plant. It is not some man-made designer drug created in a lab. I believe in personal freedom and personal accountability. Unfortunately, people both on the left and right sides of the spectrum fall into the trap of wanting a police state, a nanny state, an overreaching govt that gets to tell you what you can do in the privacy of your daily life. I don't believe in that. I believe the founders of this great country would be rolling in their graves if they were to see what kind of Govt overreach we have. Hopefully marijuana will be legalized throughout the country, and after the 1-2 weeks of hype/hysteria by the media, politicians etc dies down, everyone will understand it's no big deal. It is crazy to throw one single productive citizen in jail over a plant. As taxpayers, we're footing the bill for people who should be working and being productive, to be caged up in jail for possessing marijuana and it is simply not right. It is not the way the founders intended.
Hmmm....let's see, if we were take a big 10 foot x 10 foot parachute and deploy it behind every NASCAR car in the next race, plus take out the gasoline engine and replace it with an electric one found in your avg hybrid, that would be a good example of what the Democrats in Congress and the OBAMA administration has had on the economy since their housing/mortgage bubble collapsed the economy. The Obamacare parachute which would be a large 2nd parachute deployed immediately next to the first one. That would be the best analogy I can find for what leftists have done to the economy for years now.
Living here in AZ, for years now, I've been wondering how roughly 1/2 of the American people can be so stupid as to believe the Left wing and their lies in demanding to take away our rights to keep/bear arms.....all the while, we have armed drug traffickers, armed human smugglers, and even terrorists, encroaching our southern borders on a daily basis. HOW in the world is it at all credible, that we should give up our rights and freedomes to defend ourselves, with this armed incursion happening unabated??? The Obama criminal organization and the Dem's in GOVT who blindly support it, have done nothing but harm to this country.
