The Buchanan administration had a special agreement/armistice not to reinforce both Fort Sumter and Fort Pickens (FL), which the incoming Lincoln administration immediately abrogated after showing extreme bad faith. The intent was to provoke defensive action by South Carolina and inflame northern passions to war against the South. It worked. Four years and 650,000 military deaths, plus hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths including many among the freed slaves left to fend for themselves, later, the subjugation of the South set the stage for the overweening central government that now plagues us.

Mrs. Schlafly is 100% correct, a Con-Con would be highjacked and used to rewrite or nullify our Constitution. The ONLY remedy for an out-of-control Executive is impeachment. We the People must do whatever it takes to compel the House to do its duty: march on Washington, call, fax, write, start an ad campaign, put up billboards, insist-insist-insist until they do it. Start impeachment proceedings in the House, and campaign for more GOP Senators next year to finish what the House is empowered to begin. After all the evidence comes out in hearings that are too important to ignore, I forecast a Republican landslide in the midterms.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

I have every confidence in Mrs. West, and am appalled at David Horowitz's "betrayal" of her and her integrity. I had put off buying her book but will now make it a point to order it and read the truth. The War Between the States and aftermath are also periods of historical revision, which I have researched extensively. Don't believe everything served up by mainstream "historians" as gospel. Government will always promote the viewpoint that covers its flaws and makes it look good.
