The Republican vice-presidential candidate, Congressman Paul Ryan, is the Democrats' political version of the Anti-Christ. He believes in self-reliance; the left believes in reliance on the state. His moral values are shaped by religion (Catholicism); the left is frightened by religious Christian politicians (and athletes, and members of the armed forces, and talk show hosts, and, for that matter, clergy). He believes in individualism; the left believes in collectivism. He believes in small government and powerful citizens; the left believes in large government and dependent citizens.

There's no 'anecdotal evidence' to speak of - there's the simple fact that Ryan is a hypocrite by wanting to dismantle the social safety nets that allowed him to become the man that he is today.
Three years ago, Mitt Romney proposed a constitutional amendment that would have made Paul Ryan ineligible for the Presidency - that the POTUS would need 3 years in business.
Ryan lived off the state growing up, became a congressional staffer, and then has spent 12 years in congress (only passed 2 bills - renaming a post office and changing the way archery arrows are taxed).
His entire life he's lived off of taxpayers.
