Can anyone EVER tell us what percentage of the budget of one of these places is sucked up by the "employees union", then tell us what PERCENT of that can be reasonably cut, then give us the total budget, the usual shortfall, then the ANSWER on how much to cut from the guzzling guv employees cartel that proves the point ? Why should ANYONE believe you republicans on this when NONE OF YOU ever have the basic numbers ready. Better get those numbers in your whines some day, OR YOU'LL LOSE THIS UNTIL YOUR FACES FALL OFF.

It is obvious that we ( the U S government/taxpayers ) spend more than we take in. Yet there are those that say "we can't cut spending anywhere". I'd venture a guess that we could cut just one percent across the entire federal spending and every department and program would continue on. There is "waste" and "fraud" in every program. Do a one percent cut per year until the income and outgo balanced and then we would know where the true needs are. Sadly, there is no national will to do the right thing!

"Detroit has a population of 700,000. On per capital basis, that means the bailout cost about $112,000 per Detroit resident. Delaware has the greatest per capita annual GDP of any state at $70,000 per resident- only Washington, DC- which is NOT a state, Mr. Obama- at $175,000 in per capita GDP beats the Detroit auto bailout...."

Woodie, how often do you comment on things you don't read?

the problem with whiney little libs like you is you shout out the headlines and forget to do your own research. so when the news tells you something you believe it at face value. do your own research and come to your own conclusions instead of spewing the toxic garbage the misinformation machine is feeding you. we have not had unemployment in single digits for years now. But you believe it is at 8% instead of almost 18% like it really is. Next time you want to post something use your own information and research.

Why don't YOU come up with some numbers to prove that what we are saying is false?
What's good for the goose is good for the gander, isn't it? It hurts to be hoisted on your own petard, doesn't it?

Liberals think it's just fine to throw their wild opinions out to everyone without anything to back them up and believe they should be taken at face value. Why should you demand number crunching for consrevative ideas to be valid when other factors support such claims?

Good point but it also brings up what is stopping you from coming up with the numbers yourself since you are interested in what they show. You could find info that would prove your position as researching these #s aren't a one way proposition. John has made the point many times that he isn't going to do your work for you.

From one moment to the next the city of Detroit doesn’t know where its next bailout is coming from. Chronically unable to pay its bills, the city looks to the state for cash gifts to stave off default. Operating under the terms of a consent agreement hammered out with the state, Detroit faces fiscal uncertainty largely because it has failed to get adequate concessions from public employee unions that are unsustainable. And those concessions that they have wrested from unions, politicians in Detroit have been unwilling to enforce.

One prominent Detroit attorney, however, is facing the future of the Motor...
