Actually no. I have read all 50 state's requirements for a marriage license (seriously). Florida for example claims that the state has an interest in marriage to care for children, in the event that marriage is dissolved, through alimony. Those aspects of marriage that affect children apply to gay people as well. Gays are raising over 2 million children in the US.

This week the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on two of the most critical cases of our time. On Tuesday, March 26, attorneys will make the pitch both for and against California’s Proposition 8. This, of course, is the Golden State’s pro-marriage amendment. It maintained the timeless definition of natural marriage as between man and wife.
