In l965, when when Edward Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson pushed through the Immigration reform Act, shifting our immigration focus from Europe to Central and South America, Mexico and Africa, our Country has gradually been on a downturn. Not only were we getting 85% of our legal immigrants from these areas, but an equal and even larger number through illegal entry. Been to Los Angeles lately? The welfare capital of the World? We're screwed...

Since the Romney/Ryan ticket’s loss last Tuesday, the Republican Party has been going through a period of soul searching.  Much of that is useless propaganda about how the party needs to move to the ‘center’ (whatever that is) on its tax-cutting growth agenda.

But some of it is a genuinely helpful re-examination of the GOP’s relationship with immigrants and immigrant voter groups. This is a helpful but small step in the right direction.
