Republicans remind me of the Solomon Judgement - Republicans remind me of the woman who was standing before King Solomon in a custody suit with another woman [I Kings 3:16-28]. She would have rather seen the baby cut in two than see the real mother have it. In the same way Republicans would rather see the economy tank, thousands of people out of work and our communities destroyed as long as they can get the White House back. Care pointed out to Solomon who the real mother was and care and concern for our fellow citizens and the environment tell us who the real citizens are.

There are some pretty serious consequences for twisting the Scripture the way you have.

It's not "care" that keeps 47% of the population dependent on the government for their daily bread. In the same way, it's not good parenting to hand over the credit card to an irresponsible child and let them not worry about the tab. People need personal responsibility, and a nanny-state government removes that incentive.

The government knows not to feed the bears. It needs to come to the same conclusion with feeding the people.

I can’t think of an issue that more perfectly captures the national debate than the one right now regarding the expiration of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. At the end of this year, current tax rates will expire and taxes will go up if nothing is done. The powerful Way and Means Committee, the chief tax writing committee in Congress of which I am a member, has already taken the lead and passed through the House of Representatives yet another extension of current rates for all taxpayers.
