Do you not understand that the democrats want all the tax cuts to expire ? We need to give Obama the tax increases on the rich. Actually this administration is playing games and the republicans need to call their bluff. Democrats know raising taxes on the rich is not going to give them enough revenue to continue all their social programs. The only way to do that is to raise taxes on the middle class. That's where the money is at. So they can say it's actually the republicans who would not cave therefore all your taxes will be raised. And that is exactly what democrats want. So republicans need to stop letting these democrats play them.

The Democrats are in campaign mode, 24/7. Everything they do is looking toward the next election.

The Republicans - those who aren't worried solely about heir own sinecures - are acting like the Democrats are good-faith bargaining partners. Bull****.

I think you're right, but it is a lose-lose setup for the GOP. If they cave, Obama wins his tax on the (somewhat) wealthy, the GOP can't make an issue about the economic impact, and the GOP's cowardice further alientates the party base. If they stand firm, Obama gets even more taxes while he can loudly blame the GOP for the economic impact.
