It's Islamic triumphalism and nothing else. They want to build it there because they view the 9/11 attacks as a great victory. They have a history of doing this. They want to open it on 9/11/11 -- ten years to the day after the atrocity. It is a clear insult to New Yorkers and to the people who were murdered that day.

I would really like to understand this. How does forgiving someone for something truly awful that they did make you feel better? Especially if it's something ongoing, that doesn't go away, can't change, is a permanent condition, and you just have to live with it? Why would forgiving someone (assuming it's even possible -- and speaking from direct experience, I don't see how it is) make anyone feel better?
