In nearly 25 years of teaching kindergarten just about every boy I've taught has used something (a block, Legos, pencils) and turned it into a gun. I have had only a handful of girls do that. In the Kitchen Center the girls pretend to cook and take care of the dolls. The boys throw the plastic food at each other! Anyone who claims there is no difference between boys and girls and we should not force stereotypes on them has never spent anytime in a kindergarten classroom! There are most definitely differences!!

This past week an episode of Sesame Street set off a firestorm of debate over whether a boy muppet named Telly should be ashamed that his muppet friends caught him playing with dolls.

In one corner "traditionalists" who called out the episode as gender and sex confused. In the other "modern feminists" who were offended by almost everything the traditionalists said and believe.

In light of these op-eds and arguments I decided to do a bit of personal surveying for myself.
