I am a teacher in an inner city public school. Our student population is approximately 1000, with 75% learning English as a second language, and over 90% qualify for free or reduced lunch (most qualify for free). In addition, EVERY student gets free breakfast every day. Why do the schools need to provide free meals if these families already qualify for WIC or food stamps?

Most of the students are children of either illegal immigrants or working poor, and come from large families. At least 6 of my students added a new sibling to their family just last school year, with one of them being the 8th child in the family. They receive free food, free medical care (AHCCCS, school clinics, emergency room, Medicaid) and every school...
