That's true, mere atheism doesn't have anything to say about anything except whether you believe in God. We don't only (or mostly, except in certain countries) come in communist and social democrat flavors. I personally am much closer to Rand than to Marx. I'm a stickler for the 1st amendment, but I'm also a stickler for the 2nd . You can't know my opinions just from knowing I'm an atheist any more than you can know someone's opinions from just knowing they're a theist. It makes a difference what kind of theist they are, whether they're a Wiccan or a Christian, devoted or casual, and so forth.
Last week the New York Times published an opinion piece that offered atheism's response to the evil/tragedy in which 20 children and six adults were murdered at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut.
