Why Are We Still on the DMZ?

Agreed! Mr. B seems to come off thinking as a political historian from the 19th century, where things that happened more than 500 miles away were only food for discussion by the intelligencia over a brandy. Now we soon will have third-world countries with mentally unstable leaders that will be able to rain hell on millions of people at the push of a button. And we are supposed to just sit back and let that happen as if it won't affect us? I don't think so.

Deacon -- self-defense is not a sin. But that is not my question. Would you go out of your way to antagonize your neighbor if you knew he was armed?

I don't think you would. Nor should the US. And in this case, NK is not even OUR neighbor. We are butting in where we do not belong.

Speaking from a secular standpoint...If my neighbor is decent human being, I would have no need to cuss him in the first place. But if he was as mad as a hatter, and I couldn't move away, I would build a big fence and get a cannon. And if he pointed his gun at me and I heard a round being chambered I would send him to his reward before he had a chance to pull the trigger...God forgive me.

And what do you suggest doing about it? Invade North Korea?

Or perhaps a less belligerent posture would serve us better. If we know the other side is "packing heat", doesn't it make sense to be less bellicose? If you know your neighbor has a gun, do you cuss him over the back fence?

North Korea has just pulled off an impressive dual feat -- the successful test both of an intercontinental ballistic missile and an atom bomb in the 6-kiloton range.

Pyongyang's ruler, 30-year-old Kim Jong Un, said the tests are aimed at the United States. So it would seem. One does not build an ICBM to hit Seoul, 30 miles away.

Experts believe North Korea is still far from having the capability to marry a nuclear warhead to a missile that could hit the West Coast. But this seems to be Kim's goal.

Why is he obsessed with a nation half a world...
