No. I've read the fair tax book and it simply transforms the IRS into a slightly different agency. The prebate is stupid, subject to manipulation no different than any other government program and will become welfare. I can hear it now "The Republicans want to cut my prebate check" or "The Republicans will cut your prebate check". A flat tax is no better. We need to go back to NO federal income tax, no federal sales tax. A federal government that follows the constitution doesn't need either one.

Taxing income is inherently arbitrary and economically destructive. The best argument for the Fair Tax is that it does not tax income. We used to tax by means of tariffs, which is also economically destructive, not to mention that tariffs led to the so called Civil War and to the Great Depression.

Putting Republicans in charge is never a guarantee of good public policy. It was during the Bush years, for instance, that the nation was saddled with a prescription drug entitlement. The GOPers in the White House and on Capitol Hill also recklessly increased the burden of government spending.
