Slightly off-topic (but maybe not so far off), it's finally dawned on me the significance of the clenched fist union signs displayed in the recent Wisconsin capitol froo-froo . . .it's pure Bolshevism!
I recall a radio commentator (Rather?) who said within moments of JFK's shooting that it was probably done by a rightwing extremist. The preferred enemy is always to the Right.

The proposed DREAM Act has many flaws but the largest is the requirement to serve in our military. Military service is a privilege and an honor which must be reserved to US citizens only. We mustn't use the military as a social experiment or reform school, nor should we depend on mercenaries for our defense. David

I suggest, for reasons of propriety and decency, that we all cease using vile terms, especially about our President and his family. I don't agree with our President's actions, but slanderous name-calling is offensive and distracts us from serious discussion and comment. We knew who and what he was before his election, so why do we now snivel about it? And let's not beat up on Allison; she's probably a nice person even if her political views are different from ours. Let's keep our comments clean.

Anyone remember the McNelly cartoon from the late 70s showing Jimmy Carter in a toddler car seat, complete with toy steering wheel and bulb horn?
I believe it's vital that we disabuse ourselves of the inclination to use our military as a laboratory for social experimentation. The moral argumentation is germane, of course, but only in the wider sense. What we have here is an attempt to force people to associate with others whom they find repugnant. That's a violation of First Amendment rights.

I happen to live near a city which is said to be "gay friendly." I don't have to associate with gays, even though I might like some of them (I do). But my rights to freely associate are protected. The soldier, however, cannot disassociate; he can only leave the Service.

Social progressives, by their nature, are always tinkering with societal norms and mores. The military is, to...
