Mr. Goldberg, I have tremendous respect for you, having read your book, "Liberal Fascism." But you could not be more wrong with virtually every point you've made in this article. 1. Prison guards have no control over the length of a prisoner's sentence. Judges sentence. Time off for good behavior is set by statute. 2. A lash would do nothing to protect the citizenry. Maybe if we added a command to go forth and sin no more. Or maybe not. 3. There's good reason not to liberalize the 3 strikes laws: All 3 strikers have committed at least 2 prior serious or violent felonies. 4. Governor Schwarzenanny's changes to incarceration would have been as big a disaster as Brown's are. 5. We have private prisons in CA. David Poling, DDA
