Jews in this country are only 1.7 percent of the population, but we protect their rights precisely because they are a very small minority. Why do you think it's not important to protect the rights of gays just because they are a small minority? As for them being a "powerful" group, it is clear who has all the power. Organizations lined up to oppose not only gay marriage but ALL rights for gays include Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, the Traditional Values Coalition, the Christian Coalition, Summit Ministries, the National Organization for Marriage, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, Concerned Women for America, the Christian Action League, the American Family Association, the Eagle Forum and Alliance Defense Fund

SUPPORTERS OF SAME-SEX MARRIAGE have reason to cheer after last week's election. Supporters of democratic self-government, even those of us who oppose gay marriage, do too.

On Nov. 6, for the first time ever, voters in three states – Maine, Maryland, and Washington – redefined marriage by popular vote. In Minnesota, residents said no to a constitutional amendment enshrining the traditional understanding of marriage as the union of a man and a woman. There is no denying the significance of these results: Previously the issue had gone to the ballot in 32 states, and in all 32 same-sex marriage was defeated....
