Another subject the Fed government should NOT be doing. At the very worst, it should be run by the States, at best, the towns/cities. Sure city/town, state taxes would need to be higher, but ffed should be less - spending money closer to the problem is always better.
As gas prices shoot up, more people will look at the Volt. Depressing the supply now will allow them to shout "huge backlog" when gas gets to $5/g. Am I cynical? You bet.
I don't agree CR is a left wing rag... at least I haven't seen evidence of it, other than them saying the Volt is good. I believe their first review of it was not positive.
While I am ranting... How will the dear gummint get their road tax for EV's?? They already tax each gallon of gas what $0.17 or so?? I predict that with the high mileage new CAFE standards, and continued introduction of more EV's, that there will soon be a road tax per mile driven... data collected from our GPS equipment... Watch for it!

And let's not forget GE's intended purchase of 12,000 Volts (nothing to see here... just because Jeff Immelt is CEO of GE and is the head of BH0's business improvment committee (whatever the name of it is...)). THis whole debacle just goes to show the government should not be in the business of "picking winners", becasue they are horrible at it.

In other words, Sowell was right - Obama is simply deconstructing the Constitution and turning the US intoa banana republic with a Chicago thug calling the shots. Let's put the shoe on the other foot, Zen - how would you have liked W to ignore Congress and the Constitution - and do whatever he wanted. Or for that matter, Mitt.
