Like it or not, most of the immigrants of the past 150 years have been the "losers" from their native countries. Otherwise, why would they come here? There are only two relevant questions to be answered w/r/t immigration: (1) Should the U.S. get to decide who comes in? and (2) Should we use rational criteria? When those two questions are answered correctly, everything else falls quickly into place. The U.S. taxpayer has no obligation to support the world's flotsam and jetsam, even if some of them are able to sneak across our borders.

Speak for yourself and your ancestors, for most Americans it was the opposite.

You're wrong about that. Those who came to the US before 1960 came from Europe and had to cross an ocean to get here. They had to have money (which they could only have if they had been SUCCESSFUL in their home countries. It takes an enormous amount of capitol to pack up whatever you can carry, hop on a boat and relocate to another country. It especially takes tremendous courage and motivation, both good qualities for making a new life and bringing value to your new country.

Why are your forebears an improvement arriving here for this country? But illegal immigrants ipso facto represent a loss for our country? This is, after all the country of opportunity.

Once lifted to legal status, any hard working citizen is capable of improving our common lot. Yet here we have racists who declare unequivocally the amnestied citizen will cut us all off from this great society. We will all become losers!

I don't see why.

An answer from Corbett down below:

Dreadnought:

You clearly are letting your emotions run away with you. You are not even paying attention to what is being said.

No one is claiming that ALL blacks or ALL Hispanics are unintelligent. Dr. Sowell & Dr. Williams both serve as a counter-example to that proposition.

What is being claimed & HAS been shown to be true is that the distribution of intelligence in the black and Hispanic population tends to be lower than that in the white or Asian populations.

This has nothing to do with whether they can be good Christians. But it DOES serve as an excellent indicator of their likelihood of requiring public assistance and their likelihood of being able to make a positive contribution to our nation. It ALSO is a pretty good indicator of how they will vote.

The fact that God has different requirements for His Kingdom than we have here is of no surprise. God is not asking people to be economically productive citizens. Such concepts are out of place in Heaven.

VERY WELL said, David.

Most of the other advanced nations now REQUIRE a minimum education and skill set, and even minimum assets to enter (N.Z., Australia, Canada).

My gawd, I would LOVE to see us do what MEXICO does on immigration enforcement!

And they are VERY TOUGH about enforcing their straightforward policies.

Much of Europe is REELING WITH REGRET for having brought in Islamists "just to do our work for us." In a generation or so, they will predominate in some major countries, which will mean the end of them as they have been known for many centuries.

My Grandfather came here to escape socialism/communism after being taken from his family in Prussia at the age of 13 given to baker in Germany as his live in employee. Not because he was a loser. As soon as he was able he came to America and freedom.
He never Spoke German again and as soon as he could speak English he would no longer speak Polish. He assimilated. He owned several Bakeries and part owner of a bar…..not a loser. He also came here legally, he didn’t sneak in.

My husband's family came here from Russia to escape the Russian Revolution. They barely escaped with their lives. They are wonderful people and all were successful in Russia and became very successful in the U.S.

David 1454 doesn't realize how much money it takes to move to a new country, especially if you are escaping political persecution because you can only take with you what you can carry, which is why most of the middle-class here will not be able to escape Obama's transformed America.
