Those advocating a violent overthrow of the Haitian government lack a basic understanding of the American Revolution. Haiti is the perfect storm of French, Spanish, Catholic and African integrated culture. They never had a chance. There are no short term answers to turning Haiti around. As soon as there is a void of strongman totalitarianism, another strongman will rise in his place. Any attempt to opening their society will always upset the entrenched spoils system and result in overthrow of a benevolent dictator. The best predictor of current economic and social stability of formerly colonized countries is who got there first. If it wasn't the British colonizing then it's an economic and spiritual mess today.
