Free trade doesn't work. Toyota and other foreign manufacturers are not saddled with many of the expenses American companies have had to endure such as health care costs. Developing countries such as China and to a lesser extent India are socialist countries that have an agressive industrial policy and use unfair trade policies such as currency manipulation, restrictions on labor, etc. As long as other governments subsidize their industries then our government will need to intervene or we will loose our manufacturing base.
