To Dread. So, say that he didn't gain access to these weapons. I suppose you would have felt better about the whole thing if had waited until recess and driven in to the school yard in an SUV and mowed down 20 or 30 of these children. Clue. Inanimate objects are.....inanimate objects. Would there be calls to ban assault vehicles? I fully understand the emotional aspect of this but 99.8% (or more) of the firearms owned by law abiding citizens didn't do anything wrong yesterday. Soledad O'cryin'? Need not say any more.

Introducing variables into the solution can change the outcome, yes.

Is it a foregone conclusion that denied access to guns, he would have grabbed a kitchen knife or opted to ram a car into a playground? No. For starters, his mother would likely have been alive to try and talk him down or deal with him or deny him the keys to the vehicle. We simply do not know what would have happened in that eventuality.

We do know what happened, however, because he did have easy access to firearms and a lot of ammunition.

So you think his mother would have survived being stabbed in her sleep or dying some other way?

DD- just to add support for this line of reasoning, just substitute any conversation regarding guncontrol/gun violence with eating utensil restrictions /obesity-related deaths. First Big Gulps, the next logical step is to outaw forks and spoons as the obvious villians in that equation. Yeh, let's have that conversation.

But you cannot kill 30 people if one of the people you are trying to kill has a semiauto and takes that out of your hands.

Mass shootings in the United States have at least one thing in common: they all happen in in gun free zones. Yesterday economist and author of More Guns Less Crime John Lott went on CNN with anchor Soledad O'Brien to discuss why mass shootings occur in gun free zones. O'Brien as usual, wasn't interested in factual data Lott was presenting and continually cut him off as he was making his points.

John Lott, the gun advocate who recently had a heated encounter with Piers Morgan, spoke to Soledad O'Brien on Monday morning — continuing to make his pro-gun...
