Cruz Control? Part II

Sowell particularly made the point that what Cruz says is basically correct, it's his tactics that are wrong. He is destructive to our cause because the actions he is taking will cause us to lose the Senate.

Great article. I would make the point regarding the second to last para. that we were not conceived as a "democracy" but as a Constitutional Republic in which the powers of the government are limited by the Constitution and the majority cannot rule.

This is the most important article Thomas Sowell has ever written. Paras. 4-7 are the clearest statement of what is wrong with Obamacare and what is says for the future of America that I have seen. Everyone else is focussing on details. And what Ted Cruz and the Tea Party are doing tactically is very destructive despite their excellent basic principles.

At last someone has stated explicitly what the issue is. It's our freedom that's at stake. Our rights as citizens of a free country with a government whose only function is to protect those rights and has now undertaken to finish the job of destroying them. Thank you, Thomas Sowell.

Dumb Politicians Won't Get Elected

They can and should ALL be cut. They are ALL money taken by force from some to give to others. Walter Williams has written more than one article explaining exactly how Social Security works. You get a great deal more than you ever put in. That's simply a "gift" from those who are still working to those who aren't.

Tea Party at the Crossroads

I agree with Thomas Sowell. He is 100% right. He is talking common sense and what can and cannot be achieved. For the most part, the Republicans who voted against the Ted Cruz idea did so because they knew it could not work, not because they thought it was wrong. His idea was tried, failed, and if the Tea Party would only accept that it cannot be done this way, they could try to get it done right. Taking over the Senate is the first necessary step. Right now, Tea Party policy is to get rid of Republicans; they will succeed in getting more democrats elected and defeat their purpose entirely.

Throw the Rascals Out?: Part II

The one way to stop them from wanting to stay forever in Congress is to take away the money pot i.e., the income tax, which is how they get the money to do whatever they want. That's what gives them power. Take away that kind of power, let them do ONLY what is stipulated in the Constitution (after repeal of the 16th amendment), and they won't wish to stay more than one or two terms. Nothing else will work.

See my reply to clee394. Walter Williams (and others) have explained the math. We get back MUCH MORE than we put in. We would do much better left to save the money ourselves. But that's irrelevant. The money is taken from us by force and that is wrong, immoral and unconstitutional. We are each responsible for our own lives. We're not victims or beggars or supplicants. I'm sick to death of that attitude. Once this was a free country.

Walter Williams has already written an article thoroughly explaining how the math works out. We get a great deal more than we ever put in. Furthermore, we have no choice about putting it in, since it's taken from us by force. It's wrong, immoral, and unconstitutional. ALL the entitlements, all the handouts in any form, come from money confiscated by force from all the people who go to work every day.
