The Democrats have done a great job at taking us so far backwards, i.e., far from a successful, free country, that it may not be possible for the Republicans to take us forward, i.e., to a country of free people who enjoy their natural right to pursue their goals without interference from government.

Great article. I agree. The only chance we have is to change the Senate. It may not save us, but if we don't, we lose for sure.

Why not let doctors and patients decide whether or not to use an unapproved-as-yet drug? Why are we held hostage by a government agency?

Cheap Politicians

I believe we should limit their power. Ger them out of all the areas where they were never intended to be -- business, welfare for starters. It would greatly reduce the amount of money they have access to, and the number of people who can pay them money to get favors. As long as they have so much power, no amount of salary will solve the problem.

What If Democracy Is a Fraud?

The first thing to do about it is to reject the concept that we are a democracy. Our Founders were opposed to the very concept. They established a Constitutional Republic. What to do about it is start dismantling the entitlement state and the concept that the function of government is to take care of people. It is not. It's only function is to secure individual rights. Then repeal Amendment 16 - the income tax - which is a violation of private property. That would take away the power the government has assumed. Reduce the government to its proper size: the courts, police, military.

Roosevelt started the Entitlement society. He's as guilty as anyone, perhaps more so.

It has been true throughout history that when a people become dependent, freedom is lost. We now have a country that is just about 50% dependent. How many of those complaining about Big Government are willing to give up Social Security, Medicare etc? Why do you think FDR instituted Social Security. He knew what would happen. To our great misfortune, he was right. Of course, the tide can still be reversed, but we'd better get going soon.

We have a Constitution. It would be far more constructive to devote our energies to living by it rather than trying to change it, which could end up a disaster. I do not believe we have minds of the caliber of those who wrote it in the first place, nor the extensive knowledge they had of previous governments.

It couldn't be said better or more succinctly. Those of us who are sentient have been aware from the beginning. It is heartbreaking - to say the least - to watch him destroy this once-great FREE country.

Bowe Bergdahl, Just Deserts

There is an important difference between Bowe B. and Eddie Slovik. Bowe B. wasn't forced into the military. It was his choice. He deserves any punishment the military can administer. To execute a man who was forced to be in the military -- no matter how just the cause -- is wrong.
