So long as history is presented accurately, I do not care what the source is. Good luck finding an unbiased history of Joseph Smith though. Same with Jesus and St. Peter.
Why non Mormon apologetic history? Those interested in Joseph Smith's history are pretty much in two different camps: those who want to show he was a fraud/fake/con man and those who believe he was a prophet of God. I personally do not care what history says of Joseph Smith. I know he was a prophet of God. If he was tried and convicted of anything that will not change this fact. Speaking of trialng and convicting: "(Wasn't Jesus convicted to death? What about Peter?)" Give it a shot, will you?
The banking system was termed fraudulant but that is not the same as "conviction" from my understanding of the word. If I'm wrong than I'll revise my statement.
When did Emma say Joseph Smith had sexual relations with another woman? She did not like polygamy, that's for sure (and who could blame her) but accepted it as part ofthe Lord's will. But I digress, when did Emma ever say Joseph Smth had sexual relations with anyone else but her?
Apologetics count if they are factual. read the article. It's by Gordon A. Madsen who is a practicing attorney in New York and he reconstructs the trial setting using the laws at the time. No one has ever done this before. His conclusions, that Joseph Smith was aquitted, are consistent with Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry,'s account of the restults of that trail as well as the cnews report printed closest to the time of the acytual trial. The susequent ones were printed as far as 50 years after Joseph Smith's death and likely conflated the 1826 trial with another trial.
(con't); "Consequently, we who shall be with God shall be together, since we shall all be with the one God - albeit the wages be various, albeit there be 'many mansions,' in the house of the same Father - having labored for the 'one penny' of the selfsame hire, that is, of eternal life; in which (eternal life) God will still less separate those whom He has conjoined, than in this lesser life He forbids them to be separated."[" Tertullian
What? "Marriage for eternity"? Here: ""Indeed, she prays for his [her husband's] soul, and requests refreshment for him meanwhile, and fellowship (with him) in the first resurrection." And, "if we believe the resurrection of the dead, of course we shall be bound to them with whom we are destined to rise, to render an account the one of the other…But if 'in that age they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be equal to angels,' is not the fact that there will be no restitution of the conjugal relation a reason why we shall not be bound (to them), because we are destined to a better estate - destined (as we are) to rise to a spiritual consortship, to recognize as well our own selves as them who are ours… (con't)
"No faithful Christian really cares, Darren." You're making a big fuss for someone who doesn't care. "[The temples]'ll pass away." Only due ot the sins of man. How did the Nauvoo temple pass away? "But we can't take your word." That's good. take the Lord's word instead.
"In truth, God has NOT testified in any way or at any time that Joseph Smith came as His prophet." Sure He has. I'm a witness to that truth. "We can rest assured God has no place reserved for Smith among His angels and saints." Just be prepared for shock and awe when you yourself at some point in time see Joseph Smith astanding at the right hand of God with St. Peter and all the the LORD's chosen instruments. "We know Joseph Smith died in his sins. That's all we know." I think if anybody's sins have been washed clean fromthe blood of the Lamb it is Joseph Smith.
Better than judging as if she was God, eh?
There's nothing humble about your opinion. As one who has been there and has witness the abscence of the holy Spirit in certain settings, I tell you with the utmost conficdnece that God Almighty is in the LDS temples. He's there fully and clearly .The LDS temples have more in common with that of ancient Isreali teple worship than anything else on earth. And this is what the LDS Church is. It's the restoration of what the gospel of Jesus Christ was when Christ established it on earth. "We see in Rome a basilica of immense size and beauty; Saint Peter's. But not to ostentate; only to give glory to Christ and His Church. " I agree, it is a marvel. "WE are temples of the Holy Spirit. He abides in us, if we give Him the glory. " Agreed!!!
