Why I No Longer Stand With Rand

Oh, come on people. We have done Amnesty before- post Civil War, virtually no 'Rebels' were punished. We have forgiven Japan and Germany as states and most of the 'war criminals' below cabinet rank. (Jochim Peiper anyone?) America does it all the time- it is called realism and moving on.

On Balance, Was the Iraq War Worth It?

Yes. This modern practice of having warlike conditions without a declaration of war is abominable.j The worst part of the war is that we paid for it on credit!! THAT is why we had the housing bubble and the consequent crash.

Bloomberg is the best argument for wealth redistribution I can think of.

"Grillonomics" Is a Mess

DariusIII Wrote: Mar 07, 2013 2:21 PM
Grillo seems to be reprising mercantilism. Add in a one-party state and a hero figure and you get classical fascism. Fascism does work, albeit not very well or fairly. Unlike socialism and communism, the populace has an incentive to work and accumulate- but innovation is discouraged and competition is outright forbidden. For those interested check out National Recovery Act ca 1933
Clearly the Colorado GOP is in a hopeless condition. Since the usual arguments against a intra-party revolution or a third party imply "but things will get worse..." and this is no longer the case, it seems like now is a time for "Avante a Bastille" and chuck the b...s out.
"Anomaly"?? This anomaly went on for 400 years- about the same length of time North America has been settled by Europeans. And unless the Medieval world was burning an awful lot of wood, we humans had nothing to do with it. And note that one serious outbreak of vulcanism could turn the world into an icicle- or do you not recall 'Eighteen Hundred and froze to death" the world after the eruption of Mt. Tambora (one Indonesian volcano) in 1815. It snowed in Chicago on the fourth of July. Re answers: secular means long term trend- from economics. And #8 "Likely more,,," You want to base a world changing economic system on "LIKELY"??? And I doubt the Brazilian farmers or American commuters are being swayed by a minor league blogger.
I refer you to "The Little Ice Age- How Climate Made History" by Brian Fagan, especially pages 10-16. Or have you never heard of Eric the Red and Lief the Lucky?
Not true! In 1000 AD, the Norse grew barley in Iceland and grazed cattle in mid-Greenland. Warmists prescribe (or proscribe!) arguably Draconian government actions. To accept these prescriptions, one HAS to get a YES answer to ALL the following questions: 1) Is there climate change?, 2) is there secular global warming?,3) is global warming a bad thing? 4) is global warming 'antropogenic'? 5) is stopping global warming technically feasible?, 6) is stopping global warming economically feasible? 7) is stopping global warming politically feasible? I repeat: Yes is required for all of those questions. And consider question 3: Canada, Russia, Manchuria have vast areas of potentially arable land with a warmer climate.

Libertarians' Awkward Bedfellows

DariusIII Wrote: Feb 27, 2013 5:55 PM
Libertarians are not silly. Between Adam Smith and John Locke, Libertarians have the best intellectual and philosophical foundation of all recognized political economies. And there is no disputing the success of Smithian free market economics to ensure 'The Wealth of Nations'. Re: gay marriage- let us Christians get the GD government out of our hair and declare that what it wants to do with civil unions is their problem; WE are no longer interested in what the G'mnt thinks. As for drug use; alchohol is MUCH more socially destructive and yet we do not prohibit sale or punish possession- what we do is punish anti-social behavior such as DUI and 'Drunk and Disorderly' Perfectly simple Ann, just try to be consistent -
So the union of teachers at a public university is afraid a large number of them (no doubt right-wingers all) will opt out of paying union dues- so perhaps the most liberal constituency of a job force in Michigan might not like forced union membership...say what?

Hagel Nomination: Iranians Giddy

DariusIII Wrote: Jan 31, 2013 8:32 PM
The conventional conservative wisdom is WRONG!! Have we forgot that when the Iranians took over our embassy- NOT A SINGLE PERSON WAS KILLED!! The only people that died in the hostage crisis were American soldiers killed by our incompetant leadership. We then killed more than two hundred Iranians 'accidentally'. Iran IS NOT the greatest problem in the Islamic world- Pakistan is and, in case everyone forgets, Pakistan is not ABOUT to get a nuclear weapon, THEY ALREAD HAVE THEM and sell their technology to anybody with a couple of million bucks. Sure, Iran's leadership is a bunch of fanatical dolts but name me a Middle Eastern country (except Israel) that isn't run by a fanatic dolt. Iran could be a friend- we need them
