Why Won't Conservatives Just Drop Social Issues?

Dude, I'll submit to any criticism you want. I just don't have to agree to it nor do you to mine. But this website is so replete with easy pickings when it comes to myopic thinking, unapologetic religious dogma, almost invaribly couched in fundamental Christian thinking that is clearly not shared universallly across the country. Most Independents I know lament the fact that the GOP has been co-opted by the religious right that is renders their faith in our political system highly suspect, not unlike the failure of the Left to repel the union or environmental extremists. Fortunately, my group is faster growing than yours or the Left's. And that is what is really going to save this country, not your idea of constitutional revisitation.

Good question, and one that was asked of me by a conservative veterinarian friend of mine last week. He is completely on board with conservative fiscal principles, (when applied), but he doesn’t understand WHY we on the “Religious Right” are still concerned about abortion, gay marriage, etc. “You need to drop it”, he said.

Let me try to explain why we don’t and why we shouldn’t. Those of us on the Religious Right, contrary to popular belief, are not interested in taking away rights from those who disagree with us. We’re just trying to maintain what rights we have left....
