As someone who has been through sexual orientation change efforts, grounded in psychological research and fact, I can attest that I am a much happier person. After being told for years by the popular media that I was born this way, I was at the point of suicide. The type of therapy being attacked in this legislation saved my life. I am a stronger more confident person I am much more secure in myself as a man. I finally feel that I am in touch with my core self that I was suppressing for years. I am happily married to a woman and we have 2 amazing children. My attraction to women has increased 100 % and I no longer find myself sexually attracted to men. If this type of legislation was passed several years ago I would be dead.

Two months ago, I wrote, “As of today, it is legal in California to give hormone blockers to an 11 year-old boy in order to delay the onset of puberty, but it could soon be illegal for a 17 year-old with unwanted same-sex attractions to receive professional counseling, even with parental consent.” Now, California Senator Ted Lieu, has removed any doubt as to why he introduced Senate Bill 1172: “The attack on parental rights is exactly the whole point of the bill because we don’t want to let parents harm their children.”
