There is another explanation other than the young being shallow. Of course the young are only growing into maturity so being shallow but strongly idealistic tends to go with the territory. The strongest determinint in how conservative and responsible for self one is, is if they are married. Unmarried young people see the world in ideals and their peers, tending more towards socialism. Married people begin taking responsibility for their families and seek to protect their family's individual liberties as they are carving out a future in their own territory.

Whenever Obama makes a speech these days it's always to a younger crowd. But the crowds this time are considerably less than they were in 2008. Maybe some of that idealism is wearing off. People need to realize hipness doesn't create jobs or solve our economic woes. Having the right ideas and the successful implementation of them does.

For many members of the Millennial Generation, now is the time when they begin to ponder major life choices, including their first home purchase. However, the heavy increase of student debt this generation carries may prevent many from buying a home, even at low prices.

While the challenges that face the Millennial Generation are massive, President Obama enjoys a 63% approval rating among young people according to a latest Gallup poll.
