Let's cut to the chase. Even if Menendez is found guilty of the ethics and corruption charges against him, it still doesn't mean that he will face any consequences, he's a Democrat. Also, even if this issue escalated to the point of his dismissal from the Senate (a highly unlikely event) New Jersey would just send another politician of equal corruption to fill the vacancy. Menendez is not up for re-election for another six years so that means that a special election would have to be called and we are talking New Jersey here. As for an interim replacement, I don't trust Chris Christie as far as I could throw him and that I think says it all.
