I am getting a strong sense that this is the last chance the Republican Party base is going to give Boehner and McConnell to actually "fight." I don't think it is being overly cynical to suspect that what will happen is that Obama is going to play the "draconian cuts will destroy the recovery" card and the Republicans won't have the brass to call his bluff. The end result is going to be more taxes in the form of "closing loopholes" and no spending cuts other than the typical budget gimmicks. Republicans "fight like Shirley" and that's no jest, they hit like girls.

Yesterday I laid out my case for why Republicans should pick themselves up off the mat and adopt a hard line on $1.2 trillion in "sequestration" cuts that are scheduled to take effect on March 1.  Charles Krauthammer agrees, for many of the same reasons:
