The 10th Amendment and Phony Federalism

Good article overall, Mr Chapman. But why you would characterize Ron Paul's strict adherence to the Constitution as "weirdly consistent" is beyond me. What the Founders were saying to the federal government when they crafted the !0th Amendment essentially was, "And, if we left anything out, you can't do that either!"

My son faced the same thing when he was in grade school - 25 years ago. Public school adminstrators refused to intervene BECAUSE the perps were black. I just love having tax dollars wasted. That way the government prevents me from wasting my money myself! You know, on things like feeding and clothing him, having him get a good education...

What does a Rear Admiral know about welfare? Oh, maybe just a tad - like the welfare of the 1000s of sailors in his command. THAT welfare didn't come without a price. Those men and women expected him to take care of them knowing they had to do their JOBS to the best of their ability. Fair winds and following seas, Admiral.

Well, that's not very Libertarian and it's not very pragmatic, either.

Who Is Gary Johnson?

Gary Johnson getting dissed and not "invited" to the debate for the reason given didn't really surprise me. Stay tuned for the final presidential debate, when the same thing will happen. No Libertarian, Communist, Green, etc,. will be there. Just an R and a D.
All you holier-than-thou "conservatives" (whatever that term really means) make me sick. I am a consumate heterosexual, a veteran, and definately not a "liberal." Nobody gives a good damn what you like to have for lunch when you're getting shot at. An abhorant behavior? Perhaps. But the very thought of even considering banning gays from openly serving our country (What? Are you more patriotic than they are?), let alone a Constitutional amendment that would institutionalize hatred and bigotry in the form of "marriage defined as between one man and one women" absolutely revolts me. Didn't you clowns learn anything from Jim Crow?

Health Care Wait Costs Veterans' Lives

I am a veteran and I work for the VA. It grieves me that Bush got us into these stupid wars, and Obama is perpetuating them. Worse than that, both of these administrations' egregious behavior toward the needs of our young men and women that they have chewed up and spit out is beyond contempt. The one's that fuel these wars could give a flying rodent's rectum about what happens to the poor fools that go and fight them. Fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan (soon Lybia) has nothing to do with upholding and defending our Constitution - an oath that I have taken several times, and one that every one of our soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen have taken. As a result, we all suffer. Not because we took the oath, but because...
Chuck, I used to really enjoy "Walker." Then I started reading you here only to find out you are a "law and order" "American family values" stick in the mud. That being said, I decided to read this article because you started out with a reference to "The Great Escape," but then you quickly departed from anything that had to do with the movie (may Steve be resting in peace). But, I am aware of the Supreme Court's ruling. I wasn't aware of how many illegals were incarcerated in California. Your idea of deportation makes perfect sense. To me, the one-time cost of a bus ticket or plane fare would seem to be far more cost-effective than keeping them locked up or releasing them back into the general population.
