Too bad, Mr. Gerson just doesn't get it. The fact that the movie was made at all is significant, and the attempt to corrupt the "high speed train" is too clever by about four times. I read the book again recently, and thought it would be impossible to make it a movie that could work at all. I went to the movie and it does, and it is entertaining as well. Looks like it cost more to make than it probably did. It sure worked for me. Imagine if it was seen my the many many that will never read the book, and if they get just a bit of the basic message. I normally agree with Dr. Sowell abt 200%. But the throw away phrase at the end of his always excellent piece ("intellectuals of unquestionable brilliance have advocated similarly childish and dangerous notions.") bothers me. How is it, I'd like to ask the good Dr. that childish and dangerous notions are a sign of brilliance?
We are told too often that the president is brilliant. Really? Like a sophmore that has read one book is brillant. How does one eqaute fraudulent intellectualism (I say I am therefore I am a brilliant intellectual) with the facts that you have sero wisdom.
