American Girlhood Lost to Marketers

I love Marybeth's article overall, but I strongly disagree with her specific statement: "I don't believe morality in capitalism is the responsibility of the seller." Come again? I would expect this sort of statement from an Ayn Rand acolyte, but not a leading conservative thinker. In fact, captitalism depends on moral sellers. It is the immoral sellers on Wall Street (assisted in part by the immoral buyers) which led our banking system into the ditch. And, I'm tired of giving corporate executives (of which I am one) a free pass on peddling pornographic garbage in the name of "free enterprise." Yes, as parents, we need to take responsibility for ourselves and be moral buyers. But, we can't live such a compartmentalized life that...
