Happy New Year?

Has anyone stopped to think as to why America has such a strong and effective military. Could it possibly be that the many wars and conflicts that we have been forced to, or volunteered to fight, have not only built the military might that we benefit from, but also, a national strength of character that has allowed us to overcome all enemies, both foreign and domestic? I have no patience for anyone who thinks the loss of life and limb in the many conflicts, however ill advised, that we have engaged in was in vain. The sacrifice of the American soldier and the American people that back him is never in vain! Ultimately, the world is a better place for it.
The beginning of a new year is often a time to look forward and look back. The way the future looks, I prefer to look back -- and depend on my advanced age to spare me from having to deal with too much of the future.

If there are any awards to be given to anyone for what they did in 2012, one of those rewards should be for prophecy, if only because prophecies that turn out to be right are so rare.

With that in mind, my choice for the prediction of the year award goes to Bret Stephens of the Wall...
