Did you ever read a mordant little screed entitled 'The Great Cat Massacre' by Robert Damon. The book delves into the nature of storytelling and the natural sense of drama innate to humans. Scholarly folks might find better themes in this book. But, what stuck with me was an embedded true story of a middle class man in the midst of the french revolution who would eagerly await the release of Rousseau's latest work. Reading it would fill him with such feelings and sensitivity that tears would pour from his eyes. A few hours later this same man would be taking part in mob screaming for the head of an 'aristo' about to be guillotined.
There's talk of an electoral wave building that gonna bring a new heyday of conservatism. I was there cheering in 1994 when Newt brought in his conservative revolution. Then they started to get picked off like fish in a barrel. Newt, ..down,..Livingston..,down, Foley, Craig all hoist by their own personal indiscretions. Not to speak of Delay and Cunningham taken down by their greed and narcissism. Here we are again within eye shot of the shining city on the hill. What about us the voters? Will it just be another turn around the wheel of disillusion?
