Could be that decreased heat from the sun causes ICE AGES on Earth. Howver, anything that decreases the amount of sunlight reaching the surface of the earth might be a more likely cause; as would a rapid change in the distribution of heat in terms of changes in ocean current, and in wind current. Those could result from geological hic ups, or from a natural movement of the interior of the earth over thousands/millions of years that have a frequency we don't yet understand very well.
