Here's an idea: instead of arguing about tax rates, why don't we just send every US Citizen a bill for what Congress spends? [$12,300 in FY2011.] Everybody pays their EQUAL share or denounces their Citizenship [and benefits as such]. No more stealing from your neighbor to keep you in the manner to which you are accustomed.

I have a different angle. Every year, the name of every person receiving govt welfare payments is tossed in a hat. Maybe one in a thousand names are drawn at random, and the winners shipped to a big hunting preserve in Montana. Left without clothes or food, the winners are then made fair game in a free-fire zone for any taxpayer who wants to sight in his rifle or practice his tracking skills. I'm guessing the balance between welfare recipients and tax-payers might shift real fast.

If you think $12,300 is too much, then you need to start talking to your Congressman about how to reduce his spending. The deficit would disappear in one two-year election cycle; the debt would disappear in ten election cycles. America would lead a global boom in capability.

Barack Obama really does have a plan for the next four years. When he thought he was speaking off the record to the Des Moines Register the other day, he said he wanted to negotiate a "grand bargain" with the congressional Republicans. It would include spending reductions and tax increases to reduce forecasted federal deficits.
